TMJ Physical Therapy

Temporomandibular Joint

CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP TMJ?

Physical Therapy, performed by a licensed TMJ physical therapist, is well recognized as an effective and conservative treatment for musculoskeletal disorders such as TMD and CFP. Physical therapy aids in identifying and reducing contributing factors to musculoskeletal problems, reduces inflammation, restores function and promotes repair and regeneration of injured tissues.

Miller Concierge Physical Therapy is proud to have our TMD and CFP specialists who have received training and certification from leading national TMJD and Craniofacial Pain physical therapy specialists and experts including: Steve Kraus PT, OCS, MTC, CCTT; Michael Karegeannes PT, MHSc, LAT, MTC, CFC, CCTT, CMTPT; and Jeffrey Mannheimer, PT, PhD, CCTT. In addition, our specialists have attended an Orofacial Pain and TMD residency through Dr. Mannheimer’s Mini-Residency Course at Princeton Head, Neck, and TMD. Additionally, Miller Concierge Physical Therapy TMJ specialist is a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP).

Benefits of Physical Therapy for TMJ

  1. Non-Invasive: Physical therapy offers a non-surgical and drug-free alternative for managing TMJ disorder.
  2. Customized Treatment Plans: Each patient's condition is unique. Physical therapists tailor treatment plans to address individual needs, enhancing the effectiveness of therapy.
  3. Long-Term Relief: By addressing underlying causes, physical therapy aims to provide lasting relief rather than temporary symptom management.
  4. Improved Functionality: Physical therapy can restore proper jaw movement, enhancing chewing, speaking, and overall jaw function.
  5. Enhanced Quality of Life: Effective TMJ treatment can alleviate pain, improve sleep, reduce headaches, and enhance overall well-being.

The field of TMJ treatment is undergoing a transformative shift with the rise of physical therapy as a revolutionary approach. By focusing on the holistic restoration of jaw function, muscular balance, and alignment, physical therapy offers a promising avenue for those suffering from TMJ disorder. If you're struggling with TMJ symptoms, consulting a skilled physical therapist could be your path to long-lasting relief and a better quality of life.
